Everybody knows I wrote this classic. But many do not know how THE NEW ASTROLOGY works or why it is so internationally crucial to own it.
WHAT IS THE NEW ASTROLOGY?
How Does It Work?
My best-selling book (over 2 million copies sold worldwide) The New Astrology For The 21st Century helps us to better understand human behavior by blending our occidental and Chinese astrologies together. I came up with the notion to combine both astrologies back in the 80's. I lived In Paris and so convinced a famous French publisher to pay me to write a book about this astro blending notion of mine. He loved the idea and coughed up an advance. Next, I sat down in a small borrowed cold stone house in front of a fireplace in a medieval village in Provence to write this intimidating book combining the characteristics of all 12 celestial western signs and all 12 Chinese animal signs. That's 144 NEW signs (12x12) in 700 amusing, informative pages. In the end, the book was not all about astrology. It was about how our blended astrology signs affcct our character and describe our behavior.
Chinese Astrology It turns out that the Chinese have divided time differently from us Westerners. Whereas we have 100 year centuries, the Chinese have periods of sixty years. We divide our centuries into ten decades. The Chinese divide their sixty-year spans into “dozencades” or twelve-year periods.
In the West, we divide our year up twelve times by its moons. Each 28- to 30-day month has its own astrological name. Every year our cycle begins anew. In Asia, each year within the twelve-year dozencade has its own astrological (animal) name. At the end of each twelve-year period the Chinese cycle begins anew, as does the western cycle end and begin again every 12 months.
The twelve western months have celestial sign names: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. The twelve oriental years have animal sign names: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Cat, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. In both cases the astrological sign name refers to the character of people born under its influence.
So, in fact, everybody in the world has not just one but two main astrological signs. A Western “month” sign and an Oriental “year” sign. One sign is complementary to the other. Taken together, they show us more about the individual than one sign alone can on its own. In The New Astrology, if someone is born an Aries in a Horse year, that person’s New Astrology sign is Aries/Horse. Aries/Horses, you will see, are not the same as Aries/Cats or Aries/Tigers. They have some traits of Aries and some traits of their second sign Cat or Tiger.
As I mentioned above, there are 144 New Astrology signs. Each is a combined East/West sign. The point of this exercise is to refine our understanding of human nature. Using the New Astrology we can learn to get along better with our friends, family and loved ones. We can find out why we tend not to harmonize with certain people. We can improve our knowledge of them, and of ourselves. You don't have to believe in astrology to love this enlighening (Funny) book. Yes. 60 is the magic age in South Asia. I wish I knew more about it. Will do the reseach. Thanks for the comment Kathleen.
Very interesting, the Chinese idea of 60-year periods divided into 12 -year segments instead of decades. It has a Jupiter (jovial) feeling to it, like the Jupiter Returns. And in South Asia, birthdays at the ages of 12, 24,36, 48, and 60 are celebrated as auspicious. We were in Thailland when the king's 60th birthday was celebrated by floating candles in lotus down the river in Bangkok, lovely to watch the "lotus procession" under the stars. Peaceful, too, in a big city. An auspicious new cycle began for the kingdom, his majesty was seen as a Sage, according to several people we met, having reached the age of 60.
